gitnexus-cli — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
This skill runs GitNexus commands to index a repository, inspect index status, clean stored data, and generate a wiki. Use it when an agent needs project context.
npx skills add abhigyanpatwari/GitNexus --skill gitnexus-cli -a claude-codeWhat gitnexus-cli does
The skill lets an agent run GitNexus through node .gitnexus/run.cjs <command>. It covers analyze, status, clean, and wiki: building or refreshing the repository index, checking whether it is current, deleting the index, and generating repository documentation from the knowledge graph with an LLM.
The default index lives in .gitnexus/. An analyze run also creates CLAUDE.md and AGENTS.md context files. The --watch mode keeps a local Git repository current, while the Claude Code hook after git commit and git merge only reports stale data. That matters because analysis can take up to 120s.
The wiki command needs an API key with HTTP providers. Local providers such as cursor, claude, codex, opencode, and grok use an existing CLI login. After a fresh clone or git clean, recreate a missing runner with npx gitnexus analyze or bunx gitnexus@latest analyze.
What it helps with
- index a repository's source files
- check whether the GitNexus index is current
- remove a corrupted repository index
- generate a project wiki from the graph
- refresh the index after major code changes
Example prompts for the agent
- Index this repository with GitNexus.
- Check the index status and tell me whether it needs reindexing.
- Generate a wiki for this repository with GitNexus.
