roblox-performance · sentinelcore — Claude Code skill: Roblox game optimization
An agent skill for hunting down Roblox performance problems: frame drops, extra draw calls, heavy loops.
npx skills add sentinelcore/roblox-skills --skill roblox-performance -a claude-codeWhat roblox-performance does
The skill covers Roblox performance topic by topic: StreamingEnabled for large open worlds, object pooling, caching references outside Heartbeat and RenderStepped, swapping wait() for task.wait(), LOD, merging parts into MeshParts, and reading frames in MicroProfiler. It ships with quick-reference tables, Lua examples, and a list of common mistakes.
There is a section on hot-path loops. The agent will tell you not to call FindFirstChild, GetChildren or GetDescendants inside Heartbeat, and to throttle work that does not need to run every frame. A ready ObjectPool module in Lua is included, with a bullet-firing example.
The skill targets the Roblox engine, so it does nothing for projects on other engines. Some fixes live in Studio rather than in code: workspace.StreamingEnabled and the streaming radii are set there. Turn streaming on and parts outside the radius become nil on the client, so you have to guard with if part then — otherwise code that used to work starts throwing errors.
What it helps with
- cut frame drops on a large open map
- stop searching the hierarchy inside Heartbeat
- reuse bullets and effects instead of spawning new ones
- lower draw calls with MeshParts and shared materials
- find the heavy section of a frame in MicroProfiler
Example prompts for the agent
- Turn on StreamingEnabled and show me how to guard against nil parts
- Why is my Roblox game dropping frames? Run it against the skill checklist
- Rewrite this Heartbeat loop: cache the references and drop the tree search
