parallel-task — Claude Code skill: task orchestration and setup
This skill reads a development plan and assigns ready tasks to subagents in parallel. Use it to follow task dependencies and keep progress recorded in the plan.
npx skills add am-will/codex-skills --skill parallel-task -a claude-codeWhat parallel-task does
The skill parses a Markdown plan into tasks, including their IDs, requirements, validation steps, and dependencies. You can request selected task IDs; their prerequisites are included too. Without a selection, it works through the whole plan. Tasks whose dependencies are complete are launched together, in waves.
For suitable tasks, the workflow starts with a subagent writing tests and showing that they fail, then moves to implementation and passing checks. If a task is not a good fit for TDD, the agent records why and defines another concrete verification method. Once checks pass, the agent commits locally and updates the plan; the orchestrator reviews the result and can request another attempt. A task needs verification evidence, a commit, and a plan update before it counts as done.
For Claude Code, installation places the skill at ~/.claude/skills/parallel-task/SKILL.md. Start it explicitly with /parallel-task, followed by a plan path and optional task IDs. The workflow permits local commits, not pushes.
What it helps with
- Run independent plan tasks at the same time
- Include prerequisites when selecting specific task IDs
- Verify acceptance criteria with tests or another defined check
- Record task results in the plan after committing
Example prompts for the agent
- Use
/parallel-taskto carry out the development plan inplan.md. - Run
T1,T2, andT4from./plans/auth-plan.mdwith/parallel-task. - Have
/parallel-taskwork onT3andT7fromuser-profile-plan.mdonly.

Questions about parallel-task
How do I install parallel-task in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add am-will/codex-skills --skill parallel-task -a claude-code. The skill file is at ~/.claude/skills/parallel-task/SKILL.md.
What does parallel-task do?
It reads a task plan, delegates work to subagents, and schedules tasks according to their dependencies. It also checks results and records completed work in the plan.
How does parallel-task handle task dependencies?
It launches tasks only when their dependencies are complete. After each wave is checked and committed locally, it finds the next tasks that are ready.
