paper-audit — Claude Code skill: paper audits
A reviewer-style skill for checking academic papers before submission, with blocker triage and revision plans for .tex, .typ, and .pdf.
npx skills add bahayonghang/academic-writing-skills --skill paper-audit -a claude-codeWhat paper-audit does
paper-audit reviews an academic paper as a demanding peer reviewer. It checks technical and methodological issues, links between sections, claim support, and submission readiness. Available workflows cover a quick audit, deep review, a submission gate, re-audit, and a precheck handoff for polishing.
The skill keeps script-backed findings separate from reviewer judgement and anchors each issue to a quote, section, or exact text location. Its output includes a structured issue bundle and a revision roadmap. .tex and .typ checks use the Python standard library; PDF input needs pymupdf, while the enhanced extraction path also uses pymupdf4llm. PDF review fails without pymupdf.
Full .tex and .typ coverage can call sibling writing skills from the parent directory. When those directories are missing, some script checks are skipped, so a standalone copy has limited coverage.
What it helps with
- check whether a paper is ready for submission
- triage major and minor review findings
- locate gaps in methodology and reasoning
- turn audit results into a revision roadmap
- compare a new audit with an earlier report
Example prompts for the agent
- Run a deep review of
paper.texand write a reviewer-style report. - Use gate mode to assess whether
paper.pdfis ready for submission. - Re-audit
paper.typagainstprevious-report.mdand identify regressions.
