obsidian-organizer — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Files notes into the right Obsidian vault folders and audits structure. It helps when an inbox grows messy and manual sorting breaks internal links.
npx skills add Agents365-ai/365-skills --skill obsidian-organizer -a claude-codeWhat obsidian-organizer does
The skill manages vault organization using the obsidian CLI connected directly to an active desktop session. Instead of traversing hundreds of directories repeatedly, it reads a single source of truth: 00_Index/Folder_Map.md. This map lives inside the vault as plain markdown bullets. The assistant reads the file once, picks the matching path, and executes the change.
Safety matters when moving files. The skill uses obsidian move and obsidian rename instead of raw shell tools. Shell utilities like mv leave dead wikilinks behind. Obsidian's native calls let the app rewrite backlinks automatically across the entire vault.
The desktop app must be open during operation, or connection calls immediately fail. When you approve an entirely new category, the agent appends it to the map note so future runs remember it.
What it helps with
- route incoming notes to matching vault folders
- find orphan notes that lack incoming links
- detect dead-end notes with no outgoing links
- maintain a single markdown taxonomy map inside the vault
Example prompts for the agent
- File the note Inbox/Draft.md into the best matching folder in vault MyVault
- Check the Research folder for orphan notes and summarize dead ends
- Add a new category for machine learning notes into Folder_Map.md
