netsuite-finance-analyst — Claude Code skill: what it does
Analyzes NetSuite accounting reports, explains budget variances, and guides period-close workflows. Built for finance teams needing executive summaries.
npx skills add oracle/netsuite-suitecloud-sdk --skill netsuite-finance-analyst -a claude-codeWhat netsuite-finance-analyst does
This skill interprets general ledger records and balance sheets from NetSuite. Instead of dumping raw table rows, it isolates primary drivers in currency and percentage terms. It separates timing differences from recurring operational shifts before alerting the user.
Data retrieval follows a strict priority order. The agent inspects standard financial reports first, moves to saved searches when custom views are needed, and resorts to SuiteQL only as a fallback. An active NetSuite MCP tool connection is required to fetch real records. By default, the skill stays strictly read-only. Posting journal entries or altering records requires direct manual confirmation with specified subsidiaries and accounting impacts. That barrier protects your general ledger from unintended write operations.
It will not handle SuiteScript coding or SDF bundle deployments. If an accounting period remains open, the skill marks all figures as preliminary and highlights missing items.
What it helps with
- pinpoint drivers behind budget versus actual variances
- audit open accounting periods for unposted transactions
- draft board-ready financial commentary from NetSuite data
- review balance sheet reconciliations before closing books
Example prompts for the agent
- Summarize our consolidated budget versus actual variance for the previous month
- Check the close status of the current accounting period and list open blockers
- Generate a cash runway report for the executive team using recent NetSuite data
