netlify-deploy · davila7 — Claude Code skill: ship a site to Netlify
A Claude skill that walks a web project through a Netlify release: auth check, site linking, build and upload to a preview or production URL.
npx claude-code-templates@latest --skill development/netlify-deployWhat netlify-deploy does
The skill wraps the everyday parts of npx netlify. It starts by reading npx netlify status; with no active session it points you to npx netlify login or to setting NETLIFY_AUTH_TOKEN. Then it works out whether a site is already attached. For a Git project it tries npx netlify link --git-remote-url <REMOTE_URL>. When no Netlify site exists yet, npx netlify init takes over and handles team, site name and build settings.
Dependencies come next — npm install for an npm project. Publishing happens in two stages: npx netlify deploy returns a preview link with its own address, while npx netlify deploy --prod pushes to the live URL. Build config is read from netlify.toml when present. Without it, the CLI asks for a build command and publish directory, and the skill can suggest values based on the framework in package.json.
You need a Netlify account with an active login, and a deploy can run for several minutes, so set the timeout generously. Sandboxed networking that blocks outbound calls is a real blocker here: timeouts, DNS failures or dropped connections mean the upload never reaches Netlify. The fix is a rerun with sandbox_permissions=require_escalated.
What it helps with
- publish the current project folder to Netlify
- attach a repo to an existing Netlify site by its Git remote
- get a preview URL for testing before going live
- set a build command and publish directory without a netlify.toml
- find out why a deploy dies at login or at build
Example prompts for the agent
- Check my Netlify login and deploy this as a preview
- Link this repo to a Netlify site, then build and push to production
- Run
npx netlify deploy --prodand give me the site URL
