ios-localization — Claude Code skill: iOS localization
Guides localization work for iOS and macOS apps, from String Catalogs and plural forms to locale formatting and RTL layouts.
npx skills add dpearson2699/swift-ios-skills --skill ios-localization -a claude-codeWhat ios-localization does
This skill guides localization and internationalization work for iOS and macOS with String Catalogs in .xcstrings. It covers Xcode string extraction, stable keys, plural forms, LocalizedStringKey, LocalizedStringResource, and String(localized:).
It distinguishes implicit SwiftUI localization from cases where services or errors need a resolved String. It also covers FormatStyle for numbers, dates, currencies, and measurements, plus RTL layout and Dynamic Type.
Generated symbols in Xcode 26 sit on top of String Catalogs but are internal. That matters in a multi-module project: cross-module use needs a public wrapper extension.
What it helps with
- add a
.xcstringsString Catalog to an app - choose a localized string type for SwiftUI or services
- create stable keys for generated Swift symbols
- handle plural forms and interpolated values
- review layouts for RTL languages and Dynamic Type
Example prompts for the agent
- "Add localization for the settings screen with String Catalogs in
.xcstrings." - "Review this SwiftUI code and decide where to use
LocalizedStringKeyorString(localized:)." - "Create pluralized counter strings with locale-aware date formatting."

What does ios-localization do?
It helps implement, review, or improve localization in iOS and macOS apps. Its guidance covers String Catalogs, Swift string types, pluralization, locale-aware formatting, and RTL layout.
What is required for generated String Catalog symbols?
They require Xcode 26 and catalog format version 1.1. Enable Generate String Catalog Symbols in Build Settings; new Xcode 26 projects enable it by default.
