What swift-concurrency does

Guides AI assistants through diagnosing and resolving Swift concurrency errors targeting Swift 6.2 and newer toolchains. The workflow prioritizes minimal safe code interventions: gathering diagnostic context, adjusting actor boundaries or conformances, and verifying the build without unnecessary @unchecked Sendable or nonisolated(unsafe) workarounds.

It covers approachable concurrency features like default MainActor isolation (SE-0466) and nonisolated(nonsending) execution (SE-0461). Because nonisolated async methods stay on the caller actor by default in Swift 6.2+, offloading CPU-heavy work to background threads requires pairing a nonisolated context with the explicit @concurrent attribute.

What it helps with

  • resolve compiler diagnostics for Sendable conformance
  • configure default MainActor isolation under SE-0466
  • fix actor isolation warnings in Swift 6 strict mode
  • offload heavy synchronous operations to background threads using @concurrent

Example prompts for the agent

  • Fix this Sendable warning when passing state across actors in Swift 6
  • Refactor this CPU-heavy method to run off the MainActor using @concurrent
  • Adopt default MainActor isolation for our application target
