investigation-query — Claude Code skill: query an investigation log
Answers questions against an open investigation log: what witnesses said, where accounts conflict, which gaps remain.
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill investigation-query -a claude-codeWhat investigation-query does
The skill reads an investigation log and answers from it, so the attorney does not have to re-read every entry. Ask about one person's account, about where the complainant and the respondent disagree, about what is still missing, or about the strongest evidence on a given issue.
Three steps run inside. It loads the internal-investigation reference skill and runs Mode 3 (Query). Every answer cites the log entry IDs behind it. When the log holds nothing on the topic, the skill says so outright and offers to flag it as a gap.
You call it as a slash command with two arguments: the matter name and your question. Leave out the matter name and nothing runs, since that is how the right log gets found. Citation rules and gap-flagging templates live in the reference skill, which has to be loaded before any substantive work.
What it helps with
- find out what the respondent said about a specific event
- spot where the complainant's and respondent's accounts conflict
- work out which materials the matter still needs
- pick the strongest evidence on each issue
- get an answer tied to log entry IDs instead of a recap from memory
Example prompts for the agent
- /employment-legal:investigation-query [matter name] What did the respondent say about the December team dinner?
- /employment-legal:investigation-query [matter name] Where do the complainant's and respondent's accounts conflict?
- /employment-legal:investigation-query [matter name] What do we still need?

What does investigation-query do?
It answers questions against an open investigation log: witness accounts, conflicting versions, gaps, and the strongest evidence on each issue. Answers cite log entry IDs.
What does the skill need to work?
A matter name in the command arguments and the internal-investigation reference skill loaded, since substantive work depends on it. If the log has nothing on your question, the skill says so and offers to flag the topic as a gap.

Load the `internal-investigation` reference skill and run Mode 3 (Query). 2. Always cite log entry IDs in the answer. 3. If the log contains nothing relevant to the question, say so explicitly — "I have not seen any information on [topic] in this investigation log ([N] entries reviewed)" — and offer to flag it as a gap. ## Examples ``` /employment-legal:investigation-query [matter name] What did the respondent say about the December team dinner? ``` ``` /employment-legal:investigation-query [matter name] Where do the complainant's and respondent's accounts conflict? ``` ``` /employment-legal:investigation-query [matter name] What do we still need? ``` > Detailed log-query process, citation rules, and gap-flagging templates live > in the `internal-investigation` reference skill — load it before doing > substantive work.
