intro-drafter — Claude Code skill: draft a paper Introduction
Turns your research notes into six paragraphs of Introduction prose: limitations, goal, challenges, solution, contributions.
npx skills add HKUSTDial/Supervisor-Skills --skill intro-drafter -a claude-codeWhat intro-drafter does
You hand the skill a research area, the shortcomings of prior work, your key idea, the hard parts, a solution sketch and any references. It returns six paragraphs of finished prose. The structure lives underneath — background with a running example, limitations, problem and goal, challenges, solution overview, contributions — and never shows up as headings or labels in the output.
Flowing prose is the default; ask and you get an outline instead. The skill first decides whether the paper is a Technique or a New Problem/Setting, and that choice changes how much weight paragraph three carries. Contributions are checked against the challenges, and the running example from paragraph one has to reappear later. Citations are numbered in order of first appearance and each one must trace to a source that can be found.
Humanities, social science, economics and law do not fit this scaffold — the skill routes those to paper-writer. And it will not invent a running example: if you have none, it writes the background from your abstract description and asks for a real case from your experiments or deployment. Expect a weaker first paragraph without one.
What it helps with
- turn rough research notes into Introduction prose
- frame the paper as Technique or New Problem/Setting
- tie each contribution to a stated challenge
- get an outline instead of full prose
- number citations by first appearance
Example prompts for the agent
- Draft the Introduction from these notes: area, limitations, key idea, challenges, solution overview
- Write the Intro and weave in the references from
refs.bib - Give me the six-paragraph outline only, no prose yet

Questions about intro-drafter
How do I install intro-drafter in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add HKUSTDial/Supervisor-Skills --skill intro-drafter -a claude-code. The skill file then sits at ~/.claude/skills/intro-drafter/SKILL.md.
What does intro-drafter do?
It writes a six-paragraph Introduction for a technical paper: background, limitations of prior work, problem and goal, challenges, solution overview, contributions. On request it returns an outline instead of prose.
Does it work for a humanities paper?
No. The six-paragraph model targets work built on experiments, models or algorithms. For humanities and social science methods the skill hands the task to paper-writer.
