groove-work-doc — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Creates a reference document explaining how a codebase component or concept works. Use it when future agents or contributors need concrete project context.
npx skills add andreadellacorte/groove --skill groove-work-doc -a claude-codeWhat groove-work-doc does
The skill studies the repository and writes a document under .groove/memory/docs/. The file covers four areas: an overview of the component and its purpose, key files with their roles, the main execution flow, and non-obvious constraints or edge cases.
It grounds the document in real paths and traces an actual code path instead of producing generic guidance. Research uses an Explore agent, while writing happens in an isolated general-purpose agent context. When the scope is unclear, the skill asks whether the audience is a new contributor, a future agent, or both.
The topic comes from $ARGUMENTS when supplied. The filename is sanitized by removing path separators, special characters, and traversal patterns such as ../. The skill creates .groove/memory/docs/ when needed and checks that all four required sections are present. Its output is therefore tied to the repository being examined.
What it helps with
- document how a codebase component works
- map important files to their roles
- trace the real execution flow
- record edge cases and constraints
- prepare context for a future agent
Example prompts for the agent
- Create a document explaining how the authentication module works.
- Inspect
src/paymentsand document its main execution flow. - Write a concise reference for the caching concept, with real file paths and gotchas.

Questions about groove-work-doc
How do I install groove-work-doc in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add andreadellacorte/groove --skill groove-work-doc -a claude-code, then check ~/.claude/skills/groove-work-doc/SKILL.md.

It researches a repository and creates a file in .groove/memory/docs/ covering the component overview, key files, execution flow, and constraints.
Which sections does the generated document contain?
It must include Overview, Key Files, How It Works, and Gotchas. The skill verifies that all four sections exist before it finishes.
