graphify — Claude Code skill: AST index for code search
Builds a structural index of your project: classes, functions, imports and call edges. Lets the agent look up symbols instead of grepping blind.
npx skills add Howell5/willhong-skills --skill graphify -a claude-codeWhat graphify does
The skill walks your source files with tree-sitter and writes an index to graphify-out/graph.json. Nodes carry symbols with their file and line, edges carry contains, imports, calls and inherits relations. Twelve languages are covered, among them Python, TypeScript with JSX and TSX, Go, Rust, Java, C, C++, Ruby, C#, Kotlin, Scala and PHP.
The index never refreshes on its own. Run graphify update <files> after edits, or graphify auto-update to pick up everything from a git diff at once. That manual step is deliberate: in git worktrees and multi-session setups an automatic write would clash with another session's copy of the graph.
Setup takes two steps. Install the CLI globally with npm i -g graphify-ts — it runs on Bun — then build once per project with graphify build .. Querying works case-insensitively and returns matching symbols with their locations.
What it helps with
- find an entry point in an unfamiliar repo
- check which files hold a given symbol
- trace callers of a function
- refresh the index after a batch of edits
- map import relationships between modules
Example prompts for the agent
- Build the index for this repo:
/graphify build - Where is
parseConfigdefined? Use/graphify query parseConfig - Refresh the graph from my last edits:
/graphify auto-update
How to install graphify
1Skills CLI (Vercel)
npx skills add Howell5/willhong-skills --skill graphify -a claude-code2Manually: put the files in place
~/.claude/skills/graphify/SKILL.mdCopy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/graphify/
1Skills CLI (Vercel)
npx skills add Howell5/willhong-skills --skill graphify -a codex2Manually: put the files in place
.agents/skills/graphify/SKILL.mdFor all projects use ~/.agents/skills/
1Skills CLI (Vercel)
npx skills add Howell5/willhong-skills --skill graphify -a cursor2Manually: put the files in place
.cursor/skills/graphify/SKILL.mdCursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/
1GitHub CLI
gh skill install Howell5/willhong-skills graphify2Manually: put the files in place
.github/skills/graphify/SKILL.md1Skills CLI (Vercel)
npx skills add Howell5/willhong-skills --skill graphify -a gemini-cli2Platform CLI
gemini skills install https://github.com/Howell5/willhong-skills --path skills/graphifyManually: put the files in place
.devin/skills/graphify/SKILL.mdThe legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

Questions about graphify
How do I install graphify in Claude Code?
Install the CLI first with npm i -g graphify-ts, then add the skill: npx skills add Howell5/willhong-skills --skill graphify -a claude-code. It lands at ~/.claude/skills/graphify/SKILL.md.
What does graphify do?
It extracts an AST structure from your codebase — symbols, files, imports, calls — and saves it as a graph. The agent queries that graph before falling back to Glob or Grep.
Does the index update by itself?
No. You run graphify update <files> or graphify auto-update yourself, which keeps parallel sessions and git worktrees from writing over each other.
