godot-particles — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Architecture rules and GDScript blueprints for Godot particle systems. Prevents GPU memory spikes and fixes stuttering physics trails.
npx skills add thedivergentai/Game-Dev-Agentic-Skills --skill godot-particles -a claude-codeWhat godot-particles does
This skill guides coding agents through building VFX in Godot using GPUParticles2D, GPUParticles3D, and CPUParticles2D. It provides rules for trails, environmental weather, and burst effects. Crucially, it enforces initial zero-emission states so nodes do not fire prematurely at the scene origin.
The blueprints rely on dedicated lifecycle scripts. Instead of freeing nodes with a timer, one-shot VFX recycle emitters using the finished signal and the restart() method. When particle counts climb into the millions, the skill routes logic to MultiMesh rather than overloading GPU particle buffers.
In Godot 4.3, GPUParticles2D nodes stutter when parented to physics bodies. You must swap them for CPUParticles2D with fract_delta = true to maintain smooth movement. Keep this limitation in mind before architecting high-speed 2D projectiles.
What it helps with
- recycle one-shot burst effects using
finishedandrestart() - fix 2D particle stutter on moving physics bodies in Godot 4.3
- detach projectile trail positions using global coordinate space
- configure
visibility_aabbto eliminate camera frustum culling glitches
Example prompts for the agent
- Create a one-shot hit burst using smart_oneshot_recycler.gd
- Fix the stuttering trail behind my 2D physics projectile using 2d_physics_interpolation_fix.gd
- Set up screenspace weather collision using screenspace_weather_heightfield.gd

Questions about godot-particles
How to install godot-particles in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add thedivergentai/Game-Dev-Agentic-Skills --skill godot-particles -a claude-code. This downloads the skill files into your project setup.
What does the godot-particles skill do?
It provides blueprint rules and helper scripts for Godot particle systems, covering lifecycle recycling, sub-emitters, and custom shader materials.
When does the skill recommend CPUParticles2D over GPUParticles2D?
Use CPUParticles2D with fract_delta = true when attaching particle trails to moving 2D physics bodies in Godot 4.3 to stop frame stutter.
