godot-camera-systems — Claude Code skill: steady Godot cameras
Ready-made recipes and GDScript files for Godot cameras in 2D and 3D: smooth follow, screen shake, deadzones, transitions. Useful when your player camera jitters.
npx skills add thedivergentai/Game-Dev-Agentic-Skills --skill godot-camera-systems -a claude-codeWhat godot-camera-systems does
This skill tells the agent how to move a camera behind a character without the picture stuttering. It ships GDScript sources: follow rigs decoupled through RemoteTransform2D and RemoteTransform3D, platformer deadzone and drag handling, damped zoom, and a state machine that switches between follow, static framing and cinematic shots.
Screen shake runs on a trauma value that builds up and decays, rather than a random offset picked every frame. A debug script draws the decay curve so you can tune it. For 3D the skill covers SpringArm3D and raycast occlusion, and it has SubViewport setups for minimaps and split-screen.
The rules section is blunt: never copy the target position into global_position each frame, and never parent the camera straight to a fast physics body. Read the matching script before writing your own rig, not after. A SpringArm3D without a collision mask passes through walls, so that is the first thing to check in an existing scene.
What it helps with
- stop camera jitter while following a player
- add impact screen shake that fades out
- set up deadzone and drag for a platformer
- switch the camera between follow and cinematic framing
- keep the camera inside level bounds with smooth edges
Example prompts for the agent
- Set up smooth player follow in Godot 2D using the skill's script, without copying the position every frame
- Add screen shake with a trauma system so the kick decays after a hit
- Configure
SpringArm3Dwith a collision mask for a third-person camera

Questions about godot-camera-systems
How do I install godot-camera-systems in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add thedivergentai/Game-Dev-Agentic-Skills --skill godot-camera-systems -a claude-code. The skill lands at ~/.claude/skills/godot-camera-systems/SKILL.md.
What does godot-camera-systems do?
It hands the agent camera patterns and scripts for Godot: follow, deadzones, shake, 3D occlusion and mode transitions.
Why not just assign the player position to the camera?
Copying global_position every frame produces jerky motion. The skill calls for lerp() or position_smoothing_enabled = true, plus a rig decoupled from the physics body.
