dial-your-context — Claude Code skill: setup and purpose
This skill guides users in writing Sanity Context MCP instructions that explain dataset details beyond the schema. Use it when an agent misreads Sanity data or needs query-specific guidance.
npx skills add sanity-io/context --skill dial-your-context -a claude-codeWhat dial-your-context does
The skill helps build the Instructions text for a Sanity Context MCP endpoint. It focuses on details the generated schema may not convey, such as misleading field names, multi-step references, required filters, and confirmed data quality problems. The user discusses the dataset, and each proposed instruction is checked against query evidence before it is included.
It is intended for endpoints using GROQ mode. You need the endpoint URL and an organization token with Context access to test queries. Requests can use URL parameters so the production agent’s setup is not changed during the session. One constraint matters: groqFilter can narrow a saved filter, but cannot broaden it. If broader access is needed for testing, the workflow calls for a separate draft endpoint.
The user saves the final text in the Context app; the skill does not edit endpoint settings. Knowledge Base mode follows a different process, so this workflow is for dataset-source endpoints in GROQ mode.
What it helps with
- explain Sanity schema quirks to an agent
- map reference paths needed for GROQ lookups
- document filters that queries must apply
- validate data assumptions against query results
Example prompts for the agent
- Help me draft instructions for my Sanity Context MCP endpoint.
- Investigate why my agent returns the wrong Sanity documents and suggest context details to verify.
- Work out which GROQ filters and reference paths my agent needs to know about.

Questions about dial-your-context
How do I install dial-your-context in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add sanity-io/context --skill dial-your-context -a claude-code. The skill file is placed at ~/.claude/skills/dial-your-context/SKILL.md.
What does dial-your-context do?
It guides users in writing Sanity Context MCP instructions for dataset details that the schema does not make clear. Proposed claims are checked with queries and confirmed by the user.
What access is needed to use a Sanity Context MCP endpoint?
You need the endpoint URL and an organization token with Context access. The workflow targets GROQ-mode dataset endpoints, and groqFilter cannot expand an existing saved filter.
