azure-validate — Claude Code skill: Azure pre-deploy checks
Runs deep validation of configuration, infrastructure, RBAC and managed identity before you ship to Azure. Useful when a deploy fails on permissions or a broken azure.yaml.
npx skills add microsoft/skills --skill azure-validate -a claude-codeWhat azure-validate does
The skill drives validation step by step. You run the workflow script, it prints the next action, you do that action and rerun the script with the completed step noted. Progress is tracked in .azure/validate-status.json. On Windows use references/scripts/workflow.ps1; on macOS or Linux use references/scripts/workflow.sh.
Checks cover configuration, infrastructure written in Bicep or Terraform, RBAC role assignments, managed identity permissions and prerequisites. Recipe details sit in references/recipes/README.md, and role checks in references/role-verification.md. The plan status only becomes Validated once every check passes.
It expects azure-prepare to have run first and left .azure/deployment-plan.md at Approved or later. If that plan is absent, the skill halts and sends you back to azure-prepare. Anything destructive goes through ask_user.
What it helps with
- catch a bad
azure.yamlbefore it reaches Azure - audit RBAC role assignments against what the app needs
- confirm managed identity has enough permissions
- run a what-if analysis on Bicep infrastructure
- trace a deploy that keeps failing on prerequisites
Example prompts for the agent
- Validate my app's readiness for an Azure deployment
- Check
azure.yamland Bicep and tell me what fails - Review managed identity permissions and role assignments before deploying
How to install azure-validate
1Skills CLI (Vercel)
npx skills add microsoft/skills --skill azure-validate -a claude-code2Manually: put the files in place
~/.claude/skills/azure-validate/SKILL.mdCopy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/azure-validate/
Manually: put the files in place
.agents/skills/azure-validate/SKILL.mdFor all projects use ~/.agents/skills/
Manually: put the files in place
.cursor/skills/azure-validate/SKILL.mdCursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/
1GitHub CLI
gh skill install microsoft/skills azure-validate2Manually: put the files in place
.github/skills/azure-validate/SKILL.mdPlatform CLI
gemini skills install https://github.com/microsoft/skills --path .github/plugins/azure-skills/skills/azure-validateManually: put the files in place
.devin/skills/azure-validate/SKILL.mdThe legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

Questions about azure-validate
How do I install azure-validate in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add microsoft/skills --skill azure-validate -a claude-code. The skill lands in ~/.claude/skills/azure-validate/SKILL.md.
What does azure-validate do?
It performs pre-deployment checks against Azure: configuration, Bicep or Terraform infrastructure, RBAC roles, managed identity permissions and prerequisites.
Does it work without azure-prepare?
No. It needs .azure/deployment-plan.md at Approved or later, produced by azure-prepare; without it the skill stops.

Perform the action, then re-run with that value (`-CompletedStep <value>` for pwsh, `--completed-step <value>` for bash). Repeat until it reports the azure-validate workflow is complete.
