setup · aws — Claude Code skill: connect AWS agents
This skill kicks off the connection setup for AWS DevOps Agent and AWS Security Agent. Reach for it when MCP tools go missing or you are wiring the toolkit up for the first time.
npx skills add aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws --skill setup -a claude-codeWhat setup does
The skill is an entry point. It invokes setup-devops-agent to configure the DevOps Agent MCP connection, then setup-security-agent to set up the Security Agent workspace — agent space, IAM role, S3 bucket. Need only one agent? Only that step runs.
Install it in Claude with npx skills add aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws --skill setup -a claude-code. The file lands at ~/.claude/skills/setup/SKILL.md. Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI and OpenCode use the same command with a different agent flag; GitHub Copilot goes through gh skill install aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws setup.
The skill configures nothing by itself. It only chains two other skills from the same repository, so it breaks if those are absent — check that setup-devops-agent and setup-security-agent are available before you run it.
What it helps with
- connect the AWS DevOps Agent MCP tools
- stand up a Security Agent workspace with IAM role and S3 bucket
- recover when MCP tools disappear from the agent
- configure just one of the two agents
- get started with the AWS toolkit without reading the docs first
Example prompts for the agent
- set up the AWS DevOps Agent connection
- configure the Security Agent workspace with an IAM role and S3 bucket
- MCP tools are missing, run setup

Questions about setup
How do I install setup in Claude?
Run npx skills add aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws --skill setup -a claude-code. The skill file appears at ~/.claude/skills/setup/SKILL.md.
What does the setup skill do?
It invokes setup-devops-agent for the DevOps Agent MCP connection and setup-security-agent for the Security Agent workspace. If you need one agent, only that step runs.
Can I set up only the Security Agent?
Yes. The skill runs just the step you need and skips the other skill entirely.
