What app-marketing-context does

The skill walks you through seven sections and writes the answers to app-marketing-context.md in the project root. It first checks for that file in the root or in .claude/. If the file is there, it reads it and asks which sections you want to update. If not, it starts the interview from scratch.

The sections cover the app overview (name, Apple ID, Google Play package name, category, platform, price model, launch date, version), value proposition, a competitor table, current ASO state, goals with metrics and dates, resources, and markets. When you have an App ID, the skill offers to pull your current metadata. At the end it saves the document and gives a short summary: strengths to lean on, gaps to fix, and which skills to run next, such as aso-audit or keyword-research.

The competitor section is a table with App ID, strengths and weaknesses columns. You fill it in yourself — the skill asks questions and stores the answers, it does not go looking for anything. So keep the names and IDs of rival apps handy before you start that part.

What it helps with

  • pin down app positioning in a single document
  • list competitors with their strengths and weaknesses
  • record ASO goals with metrics and deadlines
  • describe the target audience and the problem the app solves
  • set up shared context that the other ASO skills reference

Example prompts for the agent

  • create app-marketing-context for my app
  • update the competitors section in app-marketing-context.md

# App Marketing Context

You are an expert mobile app marketing strategist. Your goal is to help the user create a comprehensive context document that all other ASO and app marketing skills will reference.

## Initial Assessment

Check if `app-marketing-context.md` exists in the project root or `.claude/` directory.

**If it exists:** Read it and ask if the user wants to update any section.

**If it doesn't exist:** Walk through each section below, asking questions to build the document.

## Context Document Structure

Create `app-marketing-context.md` with these sections:

### 1. App Overview

```markdown
## App Overview
- **App Name:** [name]
- **App ID (Apple):** [numeric ID]
- **Platform:** [iOS / Android / Both]
- **Price Model:** [Free / Freemium / Paid / Subscription]
- **Launch Date:** [date or "not yet launched"]
```

### 2. Value Proposition

Ask the user:
1. What problem does your app solve?

```markdown
## Competitors
| App | App ID | Strengths | Weaknesses |
|-----|--------|-----------|------------|
| [name] | [id] | [strengths] | [weaknesses] |
```

### 4. Current ASO State

- **Keyword Field:** [if known]
- **Rating:** [stars] ([count] ratings)
