api-integration-specialist — Claude Code skill: API integration
A Claude skill that walks the agent through third-party API work: auth, retries, rate limits and webhooks.
npx claude-code-templates@latest --skill development/api-integration-specialistWhat api-integration-specialist does
The skill gives the agent patterns for talking to someone else's API: keep keys in environment variables instead of code, run OAuth 2.0 through the authorization code flow, map the service response onto your own model. Everything is shown in JavaScript — an APIClient class, a fetch wrapper, response transformation.
Failure handling gets its own section. There is an APIError class carrying status and body, a retry helper with exponential backoff, and a client-side rate limiter. Only server errors get retried; client errors are thrown straight away. Webhook signatures are verified with HMAC.
Reach for it when you wire up Stripe, Twilio or SendGrid and would rather not re-derive timeouts and rate-limit handling from scratch. One caveat: the samples are JavaScript, so on another stack the agent has to port the logic itself.
What it helps with
- build an API client with one error path
- set up OAuth 2.0 and exchange the code for tokens
- retry failed requests with growing delays
- cap how often you hit an external service
- verify an incoming webhook signature
Example prompts for the agent
- wire Stripe into this project, read the keys from env vars
- build a client for this API with retries and 429 handling
- set up the webhook and verify the signature with HMAC
