apache-airflow-orchestration · reason-machines — Claude Code skill: DAGs, sensors, XCom
A skill that gives your agent working Apache Airflow knowledge: DAG structure, schedules, operators, sensors, and task failure debugging.
npx skills add reason-machines/data-skills --skill apache-airflow-orchestration -a claude-codeWhat apache-airflow-orchestration does
The skill loads into your agent as an Apache Airflow reference. Inside are code samples: a plain DAG with PythonOperator and BashOperator, the TaskFlow API using @dag and @task decorators, and dependency chains like extract >> transform >> load. There are sections on branching and email operators, plus sensors that wait for a condition.
The agent leans on those samples when you ask about creating a DAG, scheduling, configuring connections, or a task that keeps failing. Triggers sit in the frontmatter, so the skill picks itself up on a matching question — you don't invoke it by hand.
One thing to watch: the TaskFlow sample reads an API key from the DATA_API_KEY environment variable. Port that code into your project and you have to set the variable yourself, or the task dies on an empty value. The examples spin up Airflow locally with Docker Compose, or with airflow db init and a manually created admin user.
What it helps with
- build a DAG from several tasks and wire the order
- migrate an old pipeline to the TaskFlow API decorators
- pass data between tasks with XCom
- pick an operator for branching or sending mail
- figure out why a task fails and set up retries
Example prompts for the agent
- help me create an Airflow DAG for a daily export
- how do I pass a result from one task to another with XCom
- add retries and failure alerts to this DAG

Questions about apache-airflow-orchestration
How do I install apache-airflow-orchestration in Claude?
Run npx skills add reason-machines/data-skills --skill apache-airflow-orchestration -a claude-code. The skill file lands at ~/.claude/skills/apache-airflow-orchestration/SKILL.md.
What does apache-airflow-orchestration do?
It hands the agent working Apache Airflow examples: DAG structure, operators, sensors, the TaskFlow API. The agent uses them to write and fix pipeline code in your project.
Do I need Airflow installed for the skill to work?
The skill only guides the agent. To actually run DAGs you need Airflow itself — via pip with a constraints file or through Docker Compose, as the examples show.
