Computes key financial ratios and metrics from financial statements for investment analysis. Useful for inspecting profitability, liquidity, and equity valuation.
npx skills add anthropics/claude-cookbooks --skill analyzing-financial-statements -a claude-codeWhat analyzing-financial-statements does
The skill processes income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow data provided in CSV, JSON, Excel, or plain text format. It calculates profitability ratios such as ROE and ROA, liquidity metrics, leverage levels, and valuation multiples like P/E and EV/EBITDA. Output includes calculated values, comparisons with industry benchmarks, trend analysis, and a formatted Excel report.
Two Python scripts power the engine. The script calculate_ratios.py handles the underlying formulas, while interpret_ratios.py maps the numbers against industry benchmarks. You can run individual metrics or request an entire suite at once.
Inaccurate input figures directly break your valuation insights. The skill requires verified numbers, and general industry benchmarks cannot replace specific market context.
What it helps with
- calculate liquidity and leverage ratios from balance sheet data
- evaluate valuation multiples like P/E, P/B, and EV/EBITDA
- track profitability metrics including ROE and operating margins
- generate a formatted Excel report with trend analysis
Example prompts for the agent
- Calculate key financial ratios for this company based on the attached financial statements
- What's the P/E ratio if the stock price is $50 and annual earnings are $2.50 per share?
- Analyze the liquidity position using the balance sheet data
