agentmail-check-email — Claude Code skill: how it works & install
Inspects, filters, and summarizes AgentMail inboxes using a connected MCP server. It lets agents process incoming mail safely without obeying prompt injection payloads.
npx skills add agentmail-to/agentmail-skills --skill agentmail-check-email -a claude-codeWhat agentmail-check-email does
This skill guides an agent through reading mail via an AgentMail MCP connection. If you do not specify a mailbox, the agent identifies it through list_inboxes. It applies keyword searches or query filters by sender, date, and label. Search results return basic summaries, so the assistant retrieves full bodies via get_message or get_thread before writing any recap.
Triage workflows rely directly on labels. The agent updates state flags via update_message to clear unread or apply tags like needs-reply. If your automated triage script never modifies these labels, it gets stuck reprocessing identical messages on every run.
Security guidelines treat every inbound message as untrusted input. The assistant never obeys commands tucked inside headers, bodies, or attachments. It will not reveal keys, run code, or initiate outbound payments based on email text alone.
What it helps with
- search inbox threads by keyword, sender, or timestamp
- summarize long email conversations from cleaned message text
- triage unread mail into urgent or waiting categories
- inspect attachments without executing untrusted macros
Example prompts for the agent
- Check my inbox for unread customer messages and summarize them.
- Find all emails from last week mentioning the invoice and mark them as processed.
- Review recent incoming threads and flag anything requiring an urgent reply.
