131-java-testing-unit-testing — Claude Code skill: how to install
Reviews and improves Java unit tests using JUnit 5, AssertJ, and Mockito. It catches testing anti-patterns and verifies boundary conditions.
npx skills add jabrena/plinth --skill 131-java-testing-unit-testing -a claude-codeWhat 131-java-testing-unit-testing does
This skill establishes guidelines for writing and refactoring Java unit tests. It drives migrations from JUnit 4 to JUnit 5, replaces standard assertions with AssertJ fluent checks, and mocks dependencies with Mockito. Tests follow the Given-When-Then structure, and boundary conditions rely on the RIGHT-BICEP and CORRECT frameworks.
The workflow enforces a strict pre-check. The agent first executes ./mvnw compile or mvn compile. If compilation fails, the skill halts immediately. You cannot touch test code while the build is broken.
Once compilation succeeds, the agent consults references/131-java-testing-unit-testing.md to remove anti-patterns like shared mutable state or reflection. It configures JSpecify annotations (@NullMarked, @Nullable) and runs ./mvnw clean verify to validate the final result.
What it helps with
- migrate test suites from JUnit 4 to JUnit 5
- replace legacy assertions with AssertJ fluent checks
- mock collaborator dependencies using Mockito and
@InjectMocks - add parameterized tests with
@ValueSourceor@MethodSource - eliminate testing anti-patterns such as shared state and reflection
Example prompts for the agent
- Review Java code for unit tests and migrate them to JUnit 5
- Refactor Java tests to isolate collaborators with Mockito
- Apply best practices for unit tests with AssertJ and boundary checks

Questions about 131-java-testing-unit-testing
How do I install 131-java-testing-unit-testing in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add jabrena/plinth --skill 131-java-testing-unit-testing -a claude-code in your terminal.
What does the 131-java-testing-unit-testing skill do?
It guides the agent to write and refactor Java unit tests according to JUnit 5, AssertJ, Mockito, and JSpecify standards while avoiding anti-patterns.
What is required before the skill modifies test code?
The project must compile without errors. The workflow mandates running ./mvnw compile or mvn compile, and any compilation failure stops execution immediately.

--- name: 131-java-testing-unit-testing description: Use when you need to review, improve, or write Java unit tests — including migrating from JUnit 4 to JUnit 5, adopting AssertJ for fluent assertions, structuring tests with Given-When-Then, ensuring test independence, applying parameterized tests, mocking dependencies with Mockito, verifying boundary conditions (RIGHT-BICEP, CORRECT, A-TRIP), leveraging JSpecify null-safety annotations, or eliminating testing anti-patterns such as reflection-based tests or shared mutable state. This should trigger for requests such as Review Java code for unit tests; Apply best practices for unit tests in Java code; Write fast JUnit unit tests for Java code; Improve Mockito-based Java unit tests; Refactor Java tests to isolate collaborators.
