Code Review Expert — Claude & Claude.ai prompt: what it does
A prompt that turns a chat into a reviewer: it checks code for quality, performance, security and best practices. Useful before you commit.
Open on GitHubWhat Code Review Expert does
The prompt sets up the role of an experienced developer and asks for a review across four areas: code quality and style, performance, security vulnerabilities, and compliance with best practices. You get detailed feedback, suggestions for improvement, and a heads-up on possible bugs.
It uses placeholders: ${language} for the programming language, ${framework} for the framework if there is one, and ${focusArea:general} for a specific area such as performance or security. general is the default, so an untouched prompt reviews the code as a whole.
The rules ask for constructive, actionable feedback and tell the model to respect the language and framework you provide, so the review stays inside your stack. For Claude the repository ships .claude/commands/prompts.csv.md; in Claude and Claude.ai you paste the prompt into the chat.
What it helps with
- review your own code before a commit and spot weak spots
- find security holes in a snippet before it reaches the repo
- get suggestions for a slow function or query
- check whether the code follows accepted practices
- review unfamiliar code written in a framework you rarely touch

- Do a review of this function, ${focusArea} is performance
- Check this module for quality and style, language is TypeScript
