upgrade-agent — GitHub Copilot plugin: install guide
This plugin adds an agent for assessing, planning, and applying application upgrades, including .NET migrations and legacy-code modernization.
copilot plugin install upgrade-agent@awesome-copilotWhat upgrade-agent does
The plugin adds the upgrade agent to GitHub Copilot. It examines an application, identifies migration work, and helps move legacy code toward current frameworks, including newer .NET versions.
Its workflow has three stages. Assessment inspects the project, planning turns the findings into ordered tasks, and execution applies changes with dedicated tools. The package also contains an Upgrade MCP server that supplies analysis and upgrade capabilities.
The MCP server starts when the agent is invoked, so there is no separate setup step for it. The upgrade flow only starts after you select upgrade with /agent.
What it helps with
- assess a project before migration
- create a step-by-step upgrade plan
- move an application to a current .NET framework
- modernize legacy application code
- apply planned upgrade changes
