life-science-research — Codex plugin: what it does, how to install
This plugin routes life-science questions to focused skills and combines evidence from several sources. Use it for genetics, omics, chemistry, structure, clinical research, and dataset discovery.
Open on GitHubWhat life-science-research does
life-science-research adds a research layer for Codex. It classifies the task, resolves genes, proteins, variants, diseases, compounds, tissues, and other entities, then selects the smallest useful set of skills. Broad or ambiguous requests start with research-router-skill.
The plugin bundles 50 skills covering human genetics, functional genomics, expression, pathways, protein structure, chemistry, pharmacology, clinical evidence, literature, and public study discovery. Independent evidence lanes can be handled by Codex subagents when they are available, while the coordinating agent keeps control of scope, entity resolution, conflict handling, and final synthesis.
Focused questions can use a single source; multi-step questions can combine several source families. A clear research objective matters here, because broad requests may otherwise open more branches than the final answer needs.
What it helps with
- trace a gene-disease relationship
- interpret a genetic variant
- compare expression with genetic evidence
- locate public studies and datasets
- review protein structure or ligand evidence
Example prompts for the agent
- Use life-science-research to compare public genetics and expression evidence for IL6R in asthma.
- Interpret variants in this gene using genetic and clinical evidence sources.
- Find public datasets, literature, and pathway context related to TREM2.
Questions about life-science-research
How do I install life-science-research in Codex?
The plugin is intended for Codex and is distributed in the openai/plugins repository. Connect it to your Codex environment from that repository.
What does life-science-research do?
It classifies a research request, normalizes the relevant entities, chooses suitable skills, and combines the findings into a concise answer with caveats and next steps.
When does the plugin use subagents?
Subagents are used for independent research lanes, such as genetics versus expression or structure versus chemistry, when they are available. The coordinating agent still defines scope and writes the integrated conclusion.
