crystools-statusline — Claude Code plugin: live session status line
Puts context usage, git state, session cost and rate limits into a two-line status bar in Claude. Useful when you keep guessing how much room is left.
/plugin marketplace add anthropics/claude-plugins-community
/plugin install crystools-statusline@claude-communityWhat crystools-statusline does
The plugin swaps the default Claude status line for its own. Context window usage, git branch and changes, the running cost of the session, rate limits, cache stats — all in two lines. Run help after the command to see which monitors are available.
Setup happens through /crystools-statusline, which writes statusLine and CRYSTOOLS_SL_ICONS into ~/.claude/settings.json. Claude will ask permission to read and edit that file, plus a find call to locate statusline-command.sh inside the plugin directory. Three icon modes exist: nerd, emoji (the default) and none for plain text.
The script parses JSON with jq, so install it first: brew install jq on macOS, sudo apt install jq on Linux and WSL. Branch, status and ahead/behind numbers come from git. Windows under CMD or PowerShell is not supported — Linux, macOS and WSL are. Pick nerd mode only if your terminal already uses a Nerd Font, otherwise the icons render as garbage.
What it helps with
- see how much of the context window is used
- check the branch and uncommitted changes without leaving the session
- track what the current session costs
- watch rate limits while working
- read cache hit stats
Example prompts for the agent
- Set up the status line: run
/crystools-statusline - Show the monitor list:
/crystools-statusline help - Switch icons to nerd via
CRYSTOOLS_SL_ICONS
