webup-statusline — Claude Code skill: custom status line
Builds a bash status line script for Claude: pick your columns and theme, and the skill installs it into your settings.
npx skills add webup/skills-cc --skill webup-statusline -a claude-codeWhat webup-statusline does
The skill generates a status line script to your liking and writes it into ~/.claude/settings.json. Columns come from a fixed list: model, context, cost, effort, style, git, dir, worktree, vim. Two of them shift color as the session runs — the context bar goes green above 50% remaining, yellow between 20 and 50, red below 20, while reasoning effort is colored from green on low up to bold red on high and above.
Themes control the look and the prefix glyphs. gruvbox and dracula draw icons before values; robbyrussell and minimal stick to color and labels. You can swap the effort glyph with --effort-icon — presets are arrow, bolt, flash, reason, dot, none, and a raw character works too.
Two things have to be in place. jq is called by the generated script to parse the JSON Claude feeds it; on Windows the script looks for jq from WinGet or scoop, and if that fails you add its directory to PATH yourself. The generator runs on Bun, so npx -y bun is enough. No jq means no status line at all, so check it before installing.
What it helps with
- assemble a Claude status line from chosen columns
- watch remaining context as a color instead of a number
- surface the reasoning effort level in the bar
- show the git branch and worktree label together
- recolor the status line to match your terminal theme
Example prompts for the agent
- /webup-statusline
- /webup-statusline dracula
- /webup-statusline gruvbox with model, context, effort, git columns
