cc-meme — Claude Code plugin: floating animations
Draws floating animations while Claude runs: session start, tool calls, failures, waiting for input. Useful when you want to see what the agent is doing right now.
/plugin marketplace add anthropics/claude-plugins-community
/plugin install cc-meme@claude-communityWhat cc-meme does
The plugin hooks into eight Claude events, from SessionStart through Notification, and forwards each one to the meme-overlay desktop app. That app renders a transparent window with an animation and a caption: the tool name, the opening characters of your prompt, “Done” or “Error”.
Transport is a POSIX named pipe. Claude spawns a short-lived process per event, so the overlay holds the reading end while each hook opens the pipe in non-blocking mode and writes. The plugin starts and restarts the overlay process on its own, then cleans up when the session ends.
Nothing shows up without meme-overlay installed first — it is a separate desktop app and a hard prerequisite. Node.js 18+ and Claude 1.0.33+ are also required. Which animation and caption go with which event lives in ~/.config/meme-overlay/config.json; the OVERLAY_BIN variable overrides the overlay binary path.
What it helps with
- see which tool the agent called last
- get a signal when Claude waits for input or permission
- spot failed tool calls without digging through logs
- assign a different animation and caption per session event
- tell when a session starts and when it ends
Example prompts for the agent
- Set up the animations for cc-meme events in
~/.config/meme-overlay/config.json - Start a session and check whether the overlay window appears
- Why is no animation shown when a tool runs?
