tag-agent — Claude Code subagent: what it does, how to install
Cleans up vault tag taxonomy and removes duplicates. Useful for organizing deeply nested notes in Obsidian.
npx claude-code-templates@latest --agent obsidian-ops-team/tag-agentWhat tag-agent does
The subagent handles taxonomy consistency across note vaults. It detects duplicate labels, merges variations like hyphenated and slash paths, and enforces correct casing for names such as LangChain or PostgreSQL. Hierarchies are restricted to three levels deep.
The agent relies on Read, MultiEdit, Bash, and Glob tools. Its core workflow centers around tag_standardizer.py, which offers a --report argument to generate a dry-run analysis before applying any document updates.
Without the PyYAML package installed in the environment, the Python automation will fail immediately. Running a preliminary report is necessary to avoid unintended vault changes.
What it helps with
- merge duplicate tags and disparate label variations
- organize vault tags into clean parent-child hierarchies
- create an inconsistency report prior to modifying files
- enforce proper casing across product and technology names
Example prompts for the agent
- Run an audit on all vault tags and produce a taxonomy report
- Standardize product casing and merge duplicate technology tags
- Reorganize top-level categories into a nested tag hierarchy
