What network-engineer does

The subagent runs on the Sonnet model and uses core Claude Code tools: Read, Write, Edit, Bash, Glob, and Grep. It inspects configuration files, analyzes flow logs, and writes infrastructure-as-code templates directly in your repository.

Its workflow covers cloud and on-premise networking. It handles VPC subnets, transit gateways, site-to-site VPNs, and L4/L7 load balancing. The agent targets operational baselines such as regional latency under 50ms and packet loss below 0.01%.

Install it if you manage multi-region cloud setups or complex micro-segmentation. If your deployment consists of a single server with standard open ports, this agent is unnecessary.

What it helps with

  • design VPC topologies, subnets, and transit gateway connections
  • enforce zero-trust policies, firewall rules, and network ACLs
  • diagnose packet loss and latency spikes using flow logs
  • configure L4/L7 load balancers and SSL termination

Example prompts for the agent

  • Design a hub-and-spoke VPC architecture with redundant transit gateways
  • Investigate why cross-region latency spiked past 50ms in the logs
  • Create firewall rules and network ACLs to isolate internal microservices
