error-detective — Claude subagent: error root cause analysis
A Claude subagent that digs into failures: correlates errors across services, traces cascades and suggests how to prevent them.
/plugin marketplace add VoltAgent/awesome-claude-code-subagents
/plugin install voltagent-qa-sec@voltagent-subagentsWhat error-detective does
error-detective is a subagent from the VoltAgent collection for Claude. It takes on failure investigation: reads logs, traces and metrics, correlates errors across services, reconstructs event sequences and works back to the root cause. Handy when an error bounces between services and you can't tell where it started.
It runs a three-phase workflow: first an error inventory and service map, then correlation and hypothesis testing, and finally prevention strategies with monitoring tweaks. Tools: Read, Write, Edit, Bash, Glob, Grep. Model: sonnet.
Worth installing if you run a distributed system and errors cascade. On a single monolith with straightforward tracing it adds little.
What it helps with
- find the root cause of a cascading failure across services
- correlate errors from different service logs by timestamp
- tell a real anomaly from a normal error spike
- assess which services a single node failure took down
- plan monitoring that catches a similar failure earlier
Example prompts for the agent
- Go through these logs and find where the error cascade started
- Correlate errors in auth and billing over the last hour
- Why does the database connection pool keep dying? Check the traces

What does error-detective do?
It analyzes errors in logs and traces, correlates them across services, identifies root causes and proposes prevention measures.
Which tools does the subagent have?
Read, Write, Edit, Bash, Glob, Grep. That is enough to read logs, search the codebase and run diagnostic commands.
