What architect-reviewer does

The subagent reviews design documents, diagrams, and code structure to inspect system-level architecture. It checks microservice boundaries, event-driven setups, layered designs, and Domain-Driven Design implementations. It evaluates data synchronization, caching mechanisms, database scaling paths, and coupling between modules.

Under the hood, the agent inherits its model configuration and relies on Read, Write, Edit, Bash, Glob, and Grep. The workflow starts by querying system context and constraints, runs a structured checklist across security, performance, and scalability, and ends with actionable remediation plans such as Strangler or branch-by-abstraction strategies.

Install this subagent when managing modular backends or migrating legacy architectures. Running it on standalone scripts or tiny micro-apps is unnecessary overhead.

What it helps with

  • evaluate component boundaries and dependency coupling
  • assess horizontal and vertical database scaling paths
  • plan legacy system modernization using the Strangler pattern
  • audit API design and service communication contracts

Example prompts for the agent

  • Run an architecture review on this codebase and identify scalability bottlenecks.
  • Evaluate our service boundaries and recommend a decomposition strategy.
  • Check our data flow and caching layers against high-throughput requirements.
