UK regulator orders QuinnBet to pay $830,000 over AML, safer-gambling failures

QuinnBet (Gibraltar) Limited will pay £609,104 ($830,501) after a UK Gambling Commission investigation found failures in its anti-money laundering and social responsibility controls. The compliance review covered the operator's remote gambling licence from March 2023 to August 2025. The payment includes £193,118 ($263,197) in confiscation and the cost of the investigation, and goes to the government's consolidated fund.

AML: no source-of-funds checks

The Commission found QuinnBet did not monitor disproportionate customer spending. One player on a salary of about £2,000 a month deposited and lost £9,000 over four days. Another put in around £120,000 and withdrew £111,000 in less than three months; the operator never asked for proof of source of funds. Suspicious activity reports were filed late.

Social responsibility: thousands of bets a day

Harm detection failed too. One client placed around 4,800 bets in a day and 7,000 the next, and the activity went unnoticed. Another staked more than £215,000 in a single day after a large win, with individual bets above £5,000, and was flagged only the following day. Deposit limits for the 18-24 age group were applied by hand: one client deposited eight times the monthly limit and lost it within a day. During a platform migration 194 users breached their limits because of a technical error.

Licence condition 12.1.1 on AML policies and social responsibility code provisions 3.4.3 and 3.4.4 were breached. 'This case shows the consequences when systems cannot quickly identify signs of harm and financial crime,' said John Pierce, director of enforcement. QuinnBet admitted the failures and immediately tightened its procedures, which the regulator counted as a mitigating factor.
