Asia Gaming eBrief: Macau casino promo spend hits record 20.9% of GGR

Macau casino operators sent a record 20.9% of gross gaming revenue to player promotions in the second quarter of 2026, as competition for premium players sharpened.

The share is the highest on record and sits above pre-crisis levels, which points to thinner margins. Promotional spend at this level is a price war for high rollers while the market recovers. For affiliate programmes that means larger bonus budgets and stricter demands on traffic quality.

Elsewhere in the region, South Korea's GKL reported August casino revenue down 11.3% at $22.9 million, even as its number of individual customers rose. In India, tax investigators traced $7.4 billion in illegal betting transactions and want payment records to show which websites direct the funds. Cambodia's authorities announced casino inspections across the country.

Macau remains the marker for the Asian market. A record promotional share tells operators and webmasters that the fight for players who actually spend is entering another round.
