webhook-development — Claude Code skill: webhooks with retries
A skill for building webhook systems: event delivery, signature verification, retries and dead-letter handling.
npx skills add aj-geddes/useful-ai-prompts --skill webhook-development -a claude-codeWhat webhook-development does
This skill steers the agent through webhook code: pushing events to external services, verifying signatures, retrying failed deliveries and parking undelivered messages in a dead-letter queue. Useful when orders or payments have to notify a third-party platform, and when you need an audit trail of events.
Inside there is a minimal JSON event example (id, timestamp, event, version, data, attempt, retryable) plus reference guides under references/: the event schema, a Node.js service, a Python handler and best practices. The agent reads those files while writing code.
The skill stays framework-neutral, so storage and queue choices are yours to make. Signature checks and retries are described as an approach, not shipped as a library — worth checking against your provider's spec before you deploy.
What it helps with
- send order notifications to external services
- verify the signature on an incoming webhook
- retry a failed event delivery
- park undelivered events in a dead-letter queue
- keep an audit log of events
Example prompts for the agent
- Design a webhook for the order.created event with signature verification and retries
- Add a dead-letter queue for webhooks that fail after several attempts
- Show me the webhook event schema for a payment
How to install webhook-development
1Skills CLI (Vercel)
npx skills add aj-geddes/useful-ai-prompts --skill webhook-development -a claude-code2Manually: put the files in place
~/.claude/skills/webhook-development/SKILL.mdCopy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/webhook-development/
1Skills CLI (Vercel)
npx skills add aj-geddes/useful-ai-prompts --skill webhook-development -a codex2Manually: put the files in place
.agents/skills/webhook-development/SKILL.mdFor all projects use ~/.agents/skills/
1Skills CLI (Vercel)
npx skills add aj-geddes/useful-ai-prompts --skill webhook-development -a cursor2Manually: put the files in place
.cursor/skills/webhook-development/SKILL.mdCursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/
1GitHub CLI
gh skill install aj-geddes/useful-ai-prompts webhook-development2Manually: put the files in place
.github/skills/webhook-development/SKILL.md1Skills CLI (Vercel)
npx skills add aj-geddes/useful-ai-prompts --skill webhook-development -a gemini-cli2Platform CLI
gemini skills install https://github.com/aj-geddes/useful-ai-prompts --path skills/webhook-developmentManually: put the files in place
.devin/skills/webhook-development/SKILL.mdThe legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works
Skills CLI (Vercel)
npx skills add aj-geddes/useful-ai-prompts --skill webhook-development -a opencodeClaude.ai
Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Questions about webhook-development
How do I install webhook-development in Claude?
Run npx skills add aj-geddes/useful-ai-prompts --skill webhook-development -a claude-code. The skill file then sits at ~/.claude/skills/webhook-development/SKILL.md.
What does webhook-development do?
It helps the agent write webhook code: event delivery, signature verification, retries and dead-letter handling. It ships an event schema example and reference guides for Node.js and Python.
Which platforms does the skill support?
Besides Claude it installs into Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI and OpenCode, each with its own install command.

## Overview
Build reliable webhook systems with event delivery, signature verification, retry logic, and dead-letter handling for asynchronous integrations.
## When to Use
- Sending real-time notifications to external systems
- Implementing event-driven architectures
- Integrating with third-party platforms
- Building audit trails and logging systems
- Triggering automated workflows
- Delivering payment or order notifications
## Quick Start

## Best Practices
### ✅ DO
- Follow established patterns and conventions
- Write clean, maintainable code
- Add appropriate documentation
- Test thoroughly before deploying
### ❌ DON'T
- Skip testing or validation
- Ignore error handling
- Hard-code configuration values
