What vercel-deployments-builds does

The skill covers what happens between a source change and a production release on Vercel. It has sections on builds, deployment environments, deploy hooks, release phases, deployment checks and instant rollback. The model pulls it in when you work on build settings or ship a version.

The practical side is plain: a preview deployment for every branch or pull request, promotion to production when ready, build settings per project. Custom build output goes through the Build Output API. When a deploy breaks production, instant rollback is the way back. Deploy hooks trigger builds without anyone clicking a button.

One thing to know before you install: the skill is non-interactive. It carries user-invocable: false and disable-model-invocation: true, so there is no slash command and you cannot force the model to apply it. It sits as reference material the agent reads on its own. Related skills for functions, domains and observability are mentioned alongside, but they are optional and this one works without them.

What it helps with

  • wire up custom build output with the Build Output API
  • keep preview and production deploys on separate branches
  • roll a release out in phases instead of all at once
  • recover from a deployment that broke production
  • trigger a build from a deploy hook

Example prompts for the agent

  • Set up a preview deployment for every branch and promote to production when ready
  • Help me describe custom build output with the Build Output API for this project
  • Draft a rollback plan in case the new deployment breaks production

## Overview

Vercel deployments and builds cover the full lifecycle from source changes to production releases with automated previews and rollback controls.

## Deployments

- Use preview deployments for every branch or pull request.
- Promote deployments to production when ready.
- Configure deployment retention where needed.

## Builds

- Define build settings per project.
- Use the Build Output API for custom build output.
- Review build logs for failures.

## Release Controls

- Use release phases for controlled rollouts.
- Use instant rollback when a deployment causes regressions.
- Add deployment checks for quality gates.

## Automation

- Trigger deployments with deploy hooks.
- Add a deploy button for fast deploys.

## Complementary Skills

When using this skill, consider these related skills (if deployed):

- **vercel-functions-runtime**: Functions and runtime behavior for deployments.
- **vercel-networking-domains**: Domains, routing, and CDN behavior.
- **vercel-observability**: Logs and tracing for deployment issues.

*Note: Complementary skills are optional. This skill is fully functional without them.*
