xlsx · tfriedel — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Teaches agents to generate clean spreadsheets, keep formulas dynamic, and enforce financial modeling standards.
npx skills add tfriedel/claude-office-skills --skill xlsx -a claude-codeWhat xlsx does
The skill stops the agent from baking Python-calculated numbers directly into cells. It requires native Excel formulas through openpyxl and reserves pandas for data inspection and summaries. This ensures the output remains interactive when inputs change.
For financial workbooks, it applies strict styling conventions. Hardcoded inputs use blue text, calculations stay black, cross-sheet references turn green, and assumptions needing review receive yellow fills. Broken outputs containing #REF! or #DIV/0! are rejected immediately.
Without a local LibreOffice installation, the bundled recalc.py script cannot recalculate cells to produce the error report. Every generation step expects this verification to run before the file is treated as ready.
What it helps with
- build financial models with standard color coding and cell references
- update existing xlsx workbooks while preserving layout and formatting
- detect formula errors like #REF! and #DIV/0! before delivery
- replace static Python calculations with dynamic spreadsheet formulas
Example prompts for the agent
- Build a revenue forecast in model.xlsx, put assumptions into dedicated cells, and verify formulas.
- Update data.xlsx with dynamic margin formulas instead of hardcoded numbers and run recalc.py.
- Inspect the sheets in report.xlsx and format all negative values with parentheses.
