stride-analysis-patterns — Claude Code skill for threat modeling
This skill uses STRIDE to identify threats in system architecture and security decisions. Use it to structure a threat modeling session or prepare security documentation.
/plugin marketplace add wshobson/agents
/plugin install security-scanning@claude-code-workflowsWhat stride-analysis-patterns does
The skill organizes threat review around six STRIDE categories: spoofing, tampering, repudiation, information disclosure, denial of service, and elevation of privilege. Each category comes with a question to investigate and a control family, such as authentication for spoofing or logging and audit for repudiation.
Detailed templates and worked examples are in references/details.md. The guidance is to cover every category, involve security, development, and operations stakeholders, and follow identified threats through to mitigations. Install it when you need a structured review; it is not a substitute for the team’s security decisions.
What it helps with
- review system architecture for STRIDE threats
- prepare threat modeling documentation
- question security design decisions
- structure a team threat modeling session
Example prompts for the agent
- Analyze this architecture with STRIDE and list threats under each category.
- Draft questions for a threat modeling session about this project.
- Document the STRIDE threats and suggest a control family for each one.
How to install stride-analysis-patterns
1Plugin marketplace
/plugin marketplace add wshobson/agents/plugin install security-scanning@claude-code-workflowsThis installs the whole security-scanning plugin with all its skills
2Skills CLI (Vercel)
npx skills add wshobson/agents --skill stride-analysis-patterns -a claude-code3Manually: put the files in place
~/.claude/skills/stride-analysis-patterns/SKILL.mdCopy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/stride-analysis-patterns/
1Skills CLI (Vercel)
npx skills add wshobson/agents --skill stride-analysis-patterns -a codex2Manually: put the files in place
.agents/skills/stride-analysis-patterns/SKILL.mdFor all projects use ~/.agents/skills/
1Skills CLI (Vercel)
npx skills add wshobson/agents --skill stride-analysis-patterns -a cursor2Manually: put the files in place
.cursor/skills/stride-analysis-patterns/SKILL.mdCursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

# STRIDE Analysis Patterns
Systematic threat identification using the STRIDE methodology.
## When to Use This Skill
- Starting new threat modeling sessions
- Analyzing existing system architecture
- Reviewing security design decisions
- Creating threat documentation
- Training teams on threat identification
- Compliance and audit preparation
## Core Concepts
### 1. STRIDE Categories
```
S - Spoofing → Authentication threats
T - Tampering → Integrity threats
R - Repudiation → Non-repudiation threats
I - Information → Confidentiality threats
Disclosure
D - Denial of → Availability threats
Service
E - Elevation of → Authorization threats
Privilege
```
### 2. Threat Analysis Matrix
| Category | Question | Control Family |
| ------------------- | ----------------------------------------- | -------------- |
| **Spoofing** | Can attacker pretend to be someone else? | Authentication |
| **Tampering** | Can attacker modify data in transit/rest? | Integrity |
| **Repudiation** | Can attacker deny actions? | Logging/Audit |
| **Info Disclosure** | Can attacker access unauthorized data? | Encryption |
| **DoS** | Can attacker disrupt availability? | Rate limiting |
| **Elevation** | Can attacker gain higher privileges? | Authorization |
## Templates and detailed worked examples
Full template library lives in `references/details.md`. Read that file when you need concrete templates for this skill.
## Best Practices
### Do's
- **Involve stakeholders** - Security, dev, and ops perspectives
- **Be systematic** - Cover all STRIDE categories
- **Prioritize realistically** - Focus on high-impact threats
- **Update regularly** - Threat models are living documents
- **Use visual aids** - DFDs help communication
### Don'ts
- **Don't skip categories** - Each reveals different threats
- **Don't assume security** - Question every component
- **Don't work in isolation** - Collaborative modeling is better
- **Don't ignore low-probability** - High-impact threats matter
- **Don't stop at identification** - Follow through with mitigations
