setup-python-env — Claude Code skill: venv and Reflex setup
Creates a Python virtual environment and installs Reflex. Useful when a project has no .venv or imports fail because packages are missing.
npx skills add reflex-dev/agent-skills --skill setup-python-env -a claude-codeWhat setup-python-env does
The skill runs in three steps. First it checks the project root for a .venv directory; if one is there, it activates it and jumps straight to installing Reflex. If not, the agent picks a tool: with uv present it runs uv venv .venv, otherwise it falls back to python3 -m venv .venv and upgrades pip.
Python version gets checked before anything is created. Anything older than 3.10 stops the run, and the agent tells you to install a newer Python. Worth checking your version up front if you are on an older machine.
Reflex is installed according to the path taken: uv add reflex or pip install reflex. Before that, the skill checks whether the package is already there, so it does not repeat work.
What it helps with
- create a
.venvin a fresh project - install Reflex without choosing between uv and pip by hand
- set up an environment when imports fail on missing packages
- check the Python version before starting a project
- activate an existing environment instead of recreating it
Example prompts for the agent
- Set up the Python environment and install Reflex
- There is no .venv here, get everything ready to run Reflex
- Imports are broken — sort out the environment and dependencies
