What seo-aeo-best-practices does

The skill hands your agent four reference files. references/technical-seo.md is a checklist for metadata, sitemaps, hreflang and robots.txt. references/structured-data.md holds JSON-LD patterns for Article, FAQ, Breadcrumb and Product. references/eeat-principles.md covers EEAT implementation and author schema, and references/aeo-considerations.md deals with AI Overviews and crawler management.

It works as a reference, not a code generator. The agent opens the one file that matches the task and leans on it while writing meta tags, schema markup or crawl rules. That makes it most useful during page build and content edits rather than after launch.

Each platform gets its own copy: Claude reads ~/.claude/skills/seo-aeo-best-practices/SKILL.md, Cursor reads .cursor/skills/seo-aeo-best-practices/SKILL.md, Codex reads .agents/skills/seo-aeo-best-practices/SKILL.md. If your project already has metadata conventions, they will fight with this skill, so decide which one wins before the agent starts editing templates.

What it helps with

  • write metadata and Open Graph tags for a page
  • generate JSON-LD for an article, FAQ or product card
  • audit technical SEO: sitemaps, robots.txt, hreflang
  • score a draft against EEAT principles before publishing
  • prepare content for AI Overviews and answer engines

Example prompts for the agent

  • add Article JSON-LD markup to the blog page
  • check the metadata and Open Graph tags on this page
  • generate a sitemap and robots.txt for the site

SEO covers ranking in regular Google and Bing results, while AEO is about AI systems choosing your content as an authoritative answer. The skill keeps them as two separate sets of guidance.
