related-work-writing — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Drafts publication-ready Related Work sections by grouping literature thematically and contrasting previous approaches with your method.
npx skills add lingzhi227/agent-research-skills --skill related-work-writing -a claude-codeWhat related-work-writing does
The skill processes your paper draft or method outline alongside a literature collection in BibTeX format or review notes. It reads the introduction and methodology to identify core novelty claims and technical aspects that require background context.
Instead of listing papers chronologically, it clusters citations by research problem or methodology family. Each thematic paragraph begins with a topic sentence, summarizes two to five representative papers, details how your approach differs, and transitions forward. A closing paragraph positions your method relative to all discussed prior work.
Without a prepared .bib file or literature notes, the workflow stalls because the skill actively validates citation keys against your bibliography records. Target output lengths are calibrated for half a page to one page in double-column format.
What it helps with
- organize related literature into thematic research clusters
- articulate technical differences between prior methods and your approach
- verify all
\cite{}references against the.bibfile - write comparative survey paragraphs with clear positioning
Example prompts for the agent
- Use related-work-writing on draft.tex with citations from references.bib
- Write a Related Work section grouping the papers in lit_notes.md by methodology
- Compare our proposed approach with the citations in biblio.bib for section 2
