commit · neolabhq — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Automates Git commits using conventional commit messages and matching emojis. It checks the active branch, runs pre-commit linters, and suggests splitting complex diffs into atomic commits.
npx skills add NeoLabHQ/context-engineering-kit --skill commit -a claude-codeWhat commit does
The skill handles the routine tasks developers face before writing to Git history. First, it inspects your active branch. If you are on main or master, it asks whether you want a separate branch following the <type>/<username>/<description> pattern. It then runs pre-commit checks like pnpm lint, unless you supply the --no-verify flag.
Next, the skill inspects staged files using git status. If nothing is staged, it runs git add across modified and untracked files automatically. It evaluates git diff to detect multiple unrelated changes. When diffs touch separate concerns, it advises splitting them into smaller commits instead of pushing a monolithic change.
Every generated commit follows conventional commits syntax paired with a relevant emoji and stays under 72 characters on the first line. Note that if your staging area is empty, the skill stages all modified files on its own.
What it helps with
- prevent direct accidental commits to main or master
- format commit messages according to conventional commits with emojis
- split unrelated code changes into smaller atomic commits
- run project linters automatically before committing
Example prompts for the agent
- Commit the current changes
- Create a commit with --no-verify
- Analyze this diff and split it into atomic commits
