mcporter — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
This skill lets an agent list, configure, authenticate, inspect, and call MCP servers over HTTP or stdio. Use it when MCP tools need direct CLI access.
npx skills add openclaw/openclaw --skill mcporter -a claude-codeWhat mcporter does
mcporter gives the agent command-line access to MCP servers and their tools. It can list servers, show a server schema, and call a tool with key-value arguments, function-style input, or JSON passed through --args. Calls can target an HTTP endpoint or start a server over stdio.
The skill includes OAuth commands and configuration management through auth and config list|get|add|remove|import|login|logout. It also exposes daemon controls, CLI generation, TypeScript emission, and inspection of a generated CLI. The default config path is ./config/mcporter.json; use --output json for machine-readable results.
Install it when the agent needs direct access to MCP tools from a coding workflow. It adds little for projects that do not use MCP servers.
What it helps with
- list MCP servers and their available tools
- inspect a server schema before calling it
- send JSON arguments to an MCP tool
- authenticate an MCP server with OAuth
- generate a CLI or TypeScript client for a server
Example prompts for the agent
- List the available MCP servers and show the schema for `linear`.
- Call `linear.list_issues` with `team=ENG` and `limit:5`.
- Check the mcporter config and return machine-readable JSON.

# mcporter
Use `mcporter` to work with MCP servers directly.
Quick start
- `mcporter list`
- `mcporter list <server> --schema`
- `mcporter call <server.tool> key=value`
Call tools
- Selector: `mcporter call linear.list_issues team=ENG limit:5`
- Function syntax: `mcporter call "linear.create_issue(title: \"Bug\")"`
- Full URL: `mcporter call https://api.example.com/mcp.fetch url:https://example.com`
- Stdio: `mcporter call --stdio "bun run ./server.ts" scrape url=https://example.com`
- JSON payload: `mcporter call <server.tool> --args '{"limit":5}'`
Auth + config
- OAuth: `mcporter auth <server | url> [--reset]`
- Config: `mcporter config list|get|add|remove|import|login|logout`
Daemon
- `mcporter daemon start|status|stop|restart`
Codegen
- CLI: `mcporter generate-cli --server <name>` or `--command <url>`
- Inspect: `mcporter inspect-cli <path> [--json]`
- TS: `mcporter emit-ts <server> --mode client|types`
Notes
- Config default: `./config/mcporter.json` (override with `--config`).
- Prefer `--output json` for machine-readable results.
