mcp-hub — Claude Code skill: reach 1200+ MCP servers
This skill points your agent at a catalogue of MCP servers: filesystems, databases, APIs and document tools. Useful when the work goes past the repo.
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill mcp-hub -a claude-codeWhat mcp-hub does
The skill gives an agent access to 1200+ MCP servers — standardised tools that extend what it can do. Through them it reads and writes files, queries databases, talks to GitHub, Slack and Google Drive, and runs document processing.
Inside you get the MCP architecture, mcpServers config examples for filesystem and google-drive, and a table of popular servers with official ones marked. There is a section on tool discovery and a note that MCP tools become available to the agent automatically. For dependencies it suggests pip install python-docx openpyxl python-pptx reportlab jinja2.
Check server permissions before you enable anything. The skill itself advises turning on only the servers you need and reading what each one asks for. That matters: a filesystem server pointed at a broad path hands the agent everything under it.
What it helps with
- wire an agent to the local filesystem for reading and writing documents
- write an
mcpServersconfig entry without hunting for the syntax - pick an official server instead of a random one from a list
- chain several servers for a multi-step workflow
- find out which tools a given MCP server exposes
Example prompts for the agent
- Connect the filesystem MCP server and read the docs in this folder
- Set up google-drive MCP in the config and pull a sheet from it
- Which MCP servers work well for PDF handling?
How to install mcp-hub
1Skills CLI (Vercel)
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill mcp-hub -a claude-code2Manually: put the files in place
~/.claude/skills/mcp-hub/SKILL.mdCopy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/mcp-hub/
1Skills CLI (Vercel)
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill mcp-hub -a codex2Manually: put the files in place
.agents/skills/mcp-hub/SKILL.mdFor all projects use ~/.agents/skills/
1Skills CLI (Vercel)
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill mcp-hub -a cursor2Manually: put the files in place
.cursor/skills/mcp-hub/SKILL.mdCursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

Questions about mcp-hub
How do I install mcp-hub in Claude?
Run npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill mcp-hub -a claude-code. The skill lands at ~/.claude/skills/mcp-hub/SKILL.md.
What does mcp-hub do?
It helps an agent connect to MCP servers: the protocol architecture, config examples, and a list of popular servers for files, databases and APIs.
Does it need anything installed first?
For dependencies the skill suggests pip install python-docx openpyxl python-pptx reportlab jinja2. The MCP servers themselves run through npx and are configured separately.

# Mcp Hub Skill
## Overview
This skill provides access to 1200+ MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers - standardized tools that extend AI capabilities. Connect Claude to filesystems, databases, APIs, and document processing tools.
## How to Use
1. Describe what you want to accomplish
2. Provide any required input data or files
3. I'll execute the appropriate operations
**Example prompts:**
- "Access local filesystem to read/write documents"
- "Query databases for data analysis"
- "Integrate with GitHub, Slack, Google Drive"
- "Run document processing tools"
## Domain Knowledge
### MCP Architecture
```
Claude ←→ MCP Server ←→ External Resource
(Protocol) (Files, APIs, DBs)
```
### Popular Document MCP Servers
| Server | Function | Stars |
|--------|----------|-------|
| **filesystem** | Read/write local files | Official |
| **google-drive** | Access Google Docs/Sheets | 5k+ |
| **puppeteer** | Browser automation, PDF gen | 10k+ |
| **sqlite** | Database queries | Official |
### Configuration Example
```json
{
"mcpServers": {
"filesystem": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",
"@modelcontextprotocol/server-filesystem",
"/path/to/documents"
]
},
"google-drive": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "@anthropic/mcp-google-drive"]
}
}
}
```
### MCP Tool Discovery
Browse available servers:
- [mcp.run](https://mcp.run) - MCP marketplace
- [awesome-mcp-servers](https://github.com/wong2/awesome-mcp-servers)
- [mcp-awesome.com](https://mcp-awesome.com)
### Using MCP in Skills
```python
# MCP tools become available to Claude automatically
# Example: filesystem MCP provides these tools:
# read_file(path) - Read file contents
# write_file(path, content) - Write to file
# list_directory(path) - List directory contents
# search_files(query) - Search for files
```
## Best Practices
1. **Only enable MCP servers you need (security)**
2. **Use official servers when available**
3. **Check server permissions before enabling**
4. **Combine multiple servers for complex workflows**
## Installation
```bash
# Install required dependencies
pip install python-docx openpyxl python-pptx reportlab jinja2
```
