What math-reasoning does

The skill handles rigorous mathematical tasks required during paper writing. It operates on a task identifier alongside context such as an equation, theorem statement, or problem description. Supported workflows include deriving equations, proving theorems, formalizing problem setups, choosing statistical tests, compiling notation tables, and verifying derivations.

During derivations, the skill justifies each step with its governing rule, encloses final expressions in \boxed{}, and attaches LaTeX labels to referenced equations. Proofs rely on specific techniques such as contradiction, induction, direct derivation, or case analysis. Problem formalization turns informal statements into strict systems containing variable definitions, domains, assumptions, and objective functions.

Correctness checking catches dimension mismatches, boundary case flaws, and gradient calculation issues. Because the skill references local files notation-guide.md and proof-templates.md, missing template paths will break standard notation lookups and theorem formatting.

What it helps with

  • derive mathematical equations step by step with rule justifications
  • construct formal theorem proofs using induction or contradiction
  • translate informal problem statements into formal mathematical frameworks
  • inspect derivations for dimensional consistency and boundary behavior
  • compile standard notation tables in LaTeX for academic papers

Example prompts for the agent

  • Use math-reasoning derive to calculate the gradient of the loss function
  • Run math-reasoning verify to check dimensional consistency across paper equations
  • Call math-reasoning notation to generate a LaTeX table of paper symbols
