markdown-converter · intellectronica — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Converts documents, spreadsheets, and media files to Markdown via markitdown. Prepares data for LLM processing while preserving headings and tables.
npx skills add intellectronica/agent-skills --skill markdown-converter -a claude-codeWhat markdown-converter does
The skill converts various file formats into Markdown by running uvx markitdown. It supports PDF, Word (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx), Excel (.xlsx, .xls), HTML, CSV, JSON, XML, EPub books, and ZIP archives. It also extracts text from images via OCR and transcribes audio files while reading EXIF metadata.
Conversion preserves document structure including headings, tables, bullet lists, and links. Output can be printed directly, piped through standard input, or written to disk with -o.
The runner requires uvx available in your environment. If complex scanned PDFs fail to extract properly, pass -d with an Azure Document Intelligence endpoint via -e.
What it helps with
- convert Word documents and PowerPoint slides to clean Markdown
- extract tables and structure from Excel sheets for LLM analysis
- run OCR on images to pull out text alongside EXIF data
- transcribe audio files into structured Markdown notes
Example prompts for the agent
- Convert
report.docxto Markdown and save it asreport.md. - Turn the
data.xlsxspreadsheet into Markdown. - Extract text from
scan.pdfusing Azure Document Intelligence.
