lightpanda-browser — Claude Code skill: headless browser for agents
A skill that teaches your agent to run Lightpanda: install the Zig headless browser, start a CDP server, and hook Playwright or Puppeteer to it.
npx skills add reason-machines/trending-skills --skill lightpanda-browser -a claude-codeWhat lightpanda-browser does
Lightpanda is a headless browser written from scratch in Zig. It is not built on Chromium, Blink or WebKit, and it runs JavaScript through V8. The project claims roughly 9x less memory and 11x faster execution than Chrome headless. The skill hands your agent ready-made recipes: installation, CLI, CDP server, integrations and scraping patterns.
Inside you get install commands for macOS on Apple Silicon, Linux on x86_64 and Docker, a breakdown of CLI flags, and code samples. The agent can walk you through starting the server with ./lightpanda serve and connecting from Playwright, Puppeteer, chromedp or Python. There are worked scenarios too: looping over a list of URLs, pulling structured data out of product cards, running the browser next to your scraper in Docker Compose.
The browser is in beta, so treat it that way before shipping anything to production. There is no visual rendering, only DOM and JS, which means pages that paint content visually may not return what you expect. Web API support is partial. The license is AGPL-3.0, so check the terms if you embed Lightpanda in your own product. Telemetry can be turned off with LIGHTPANDA_DISABLE_TELEMETRY.
What it helps with
- run a headless browser for an agent without Chromium
- cut memory use when batch-scraping many pages
- connect Playwright to a Lightpanda CDP server
- extract structured data from product cards
- run the browser and a scraper in one Docker Compose file
Example prompts for the agent
- Install Lightpanda and show me how to start the CDP server on port 9222
- Connect Playwright to Lightpanda with connectOverCDP and grab the page title
- Write a script that loops over a list of URLs through Lightpanda and collects titles and links
