What groove-utilities-memory-log-git does

This skill writes .groove/memory/git/YYYY-MM-DD-GIT-N.md for the current session. The file number advances for that date, and the report records commits made since midnight, the current short status, and a summary of changed files.

It gathers the details with git log --since=midnight --oneline, git status --short, and git diff --stat HEAD. The document layout comes from skills/groove-utilities-memory-log-git/templates/git.md. A report is still written when the repository has had no Git changes since midnight.

Existing files in .groove/memory/git/ must be listed before writing. Otherwise the next N can collide with a report already created for the same date. The skill is available for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI, and OpenCode.

What it helps with

  • store a summary of the current Git session
  • collect commits made since midnight
  • record the repository’s current status
  • add a changed-file diff summary
  • choose the next report number

Example prompts for the agent

  • Save a summary of this Git session to project memory.
  • Check commits since midnight, the working-tree status, and diff statistics, then write the report.
  • Create today’s file under .groove/memory/git/ using skills/groove-utilities-memory-log-git/templates/git.md.

# groove-utilities-memory-log-git

## Outcome

`.groove/memory/git/YYYY-MM-DD-GIT-N.md` is created with a git summary for the current session. N is auto-incremented based on existing files for that date.

## Acceptance Criteria

- File created at `.groove/memory/git/YYYY-MM-DD-GIT-N.md` with correct N
- Content includes commits since midnight, git status, and diff stats
- N does not collide with existing files for the same date
- File is suitable for inclusion in the same commit it describes

## Constraints

- Memory path is always `.groove/memory/`
- Always list existing files in `.groove/memory/git/` before writing to determine correct N
- N starts at 1 for the first file of the day, increments for subsequent
- Git data to include:
  - `git log --since=midnight --oneline` for commits
  - `git status --short` for current state
  - `git diff --stat HEAD` for changed files summary
- Use template at `skills/groove-utilities-memory-log-git/templates/git.md` for file structure
- If no git changes since midnight, still write the file noting no changes
